A science fiction pen & paper role-playing game by V.V. de Brix

2388. Two-hundred years ago, humanity made its first contact with alien life when the idryt, the self-appointed leaders of galactic civilization, discovered Earth. The idryt were too late to save humanity from itself; by the 2080s, the Anthropocene was well underway, and Earth’s coastlines began to sink below the sea while hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, and other disasters became more frequent.

Most humans today live in one of the Earth’s great megacities, either dredging salary from a corporation or digging through dumpsters in a slum. The unlucky are caught in endless warfare between the armies of the rich and militias of the desperate. The privileged few are able to find transit off-world, into a galaxy of opportunities—or, at least, something better than what they’ve left behind.

The idryt call unknown space the Divide—it’s where the galaxy’s downtrodden seek their good fortunes, and where the powerful seek to conquer. But the Divide is more than that: it’s the divide between the galaxy’s species, between the powerful and the weak, between hope and despair, and between the present and the future.

What is The Divide?

Inspired by XCOM, Mass Effect, Star Wars, Pathfinder, and Dungeons & Dragons, The Divide was first conceived by V.V. de Brix in 2011, and in the years since has undergone several major additions, revisions, and rewrites. This latest version of The Divide will be the first to receive a public release, and you can download the playtest materials now.
